Common questions
Is my data private?
Yes. Everything is encrypted on your phone. If you don't make an account, nothing leaves your phone. If you turn on backup, it's encrypted before upload and we can't read it. There are no ads and no tracking.
Do I need an account?
No. The app works fully without one. An account only adds automatic encrypted backup, so you can restore your log on a new phone.
I forgot my password. Will I lose my backup?
Use “Forgot your password?” on the Backup tab. With your recovery code (shown once when you created your account), your backup is kept. Without it, you can still get back into your account, but your old backup can't be unlocked by anyone, including us, because it's end-to-end encrypted. The log on your phone becomes your new backup.
I lost my recovery code.
If you can still sign in, go to Backup → Password and recovery → Make a new recovery code, and save the new one somewhere safe.
How do I send my log to my doctor?
Open the Export tab, choose a date range, and tap Share PDF, Share spreadsheet (Excel) or Share as text. Your phone's share menu opens so you can email it, text it, or save it to your files.
Does it work offline?
Yes. Logging, the calendar, medications and exports all work offline. Backup and the online medication lookup need internet.
Can I hide period tracking?
Yes. Tap the ♂ symbol at the top of the app to hide everything period-related. Tap ⚥ or ♀ to show it again. Nothing you've saved is deleted.
How do I delete my data or account?
To erase everything on your phone, go to Backup → Erase my data. To delete your account and backup, see Delete your account.
Is the medication information medical advice?
No. Uses and side effects shown in the app are general information from built-in lists and public National Library of Medicine and FDA data. They aren't complete. Ask your doctor or pharmacist about anything that worries you.
Simple-Symptoms is a personal diary. It doesn't diagnose or treat any condition. In an emergency, call your local emergency number.
